What we do
Mwangaza is the largest educational outreach program in Tanzania. Education is at the core of all that we do. We tackle issues related to teaching and learning, public health, empowering women, and building community.
Community Health
Mwangaza is the only organization in Tanzania taking a comprehensive, integrated approach to addressing the HIV/AIDs epidemic in the communities we serve.
Empowerment
Tanzania is a highly patriarchal society, but Mwangaza is working relentlessly to ensure that women have a voice by engaging, training, and educating the next generation of female leaders in their communities.
Education
Whether conducting teacher training seminars or providing schools with critical resources, Mwangaza is at the forefront of improving the quality of education for all students in Tanzania.
Faith
Mwangaza is a faith-based organization and our faith drives everything that we do. Mwangaza is deeply embedded in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania, which works closely with its companion synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. We are "walking together in the light of God".
Our Impact
“Mwangaza has changed my way of teaching from a teacher who dominates a classroom to a teacher who is more a learning partner. Mwangaza’s seminars are more challenging since they show us how to make a teaching plan even in the absence of adequate teaching materials. Mwangaza has tested me emotionally, mentally, and physically, having helped me acquire skills that I will have forever which no one will be able to take away from me. I am proud to say that I have grown to be a better teacher than in past years because of these Mwangaza Seminars.”
